Cynthia Sah (1952)

Contours of Stillness

Cynthia Sah’s marble sculptures occupy a space where solidity becomes fluid and stone seems to drift between movement and stillness. She shapes marble into serene curves and spirals that feel guided by forces older than touch, their smooth surfaces giving the forms an unexpected lightness.

An internationally recognised artist raised in Hong Kong, Sah is known for her organic minimalism and her deep dialogue with nature. She approaches each raw block as a living material, uncovering its latent form with a sensitivity rooted in Chinese ideas of fundamental harmony. Whether she creates airy, flowing gestures or fuller shapes with quiet gravity, her works always pulse with a gentle rhythm and spiritual clarity.

Sah skilfully balances openness and mass, permanence and motion. Some pieces fold into themselves like cosmic spirals; others stretch outward in almost calligraphic sweeps. More than sculptures, they are meditative spaces inviting viewers to move around them, follow their gentle turns, and experience marble as both presence and breath.
