Ling Jian (1963)
Fabulous Fragments
Mostly known for his hyper-realistic large-scale paintings capturing faces of Chinese women, Ling Jian’s recent body of works dissolve the boundary between figure and abstraction, merging flesh and gesture into dreamlike psychedelics hybrids. The works explore the instability of beauty and identity in an age of technological transformation. Faces fragment, bodies liquefy, and surfaces shimmer with hallucinatory colours, echoing both digital distortion and ancient Chinese notions of metamorphosis. Ling Jian’s refined oil technique generates a surreal tension between seduction and estrangement, yielding images that are as psychological as they are physical: portraits of desire dissolving into unpredictable forms.
